Hi,
I must be misreading what is going on here... I have a 4.2 Zenoss machine set up and it is working reasonably well. Alerts are getting sent out. However, the alerts are getting sent out with the ORIGINAL server name. I have since changed the server name (which was a horrible DHCP name from server installation) but the emails are getting sent out with mailto:***@oldmachinename.fully.qualified.domain.name ***@oldmachinename.fully.qualified.domain.name as the from user. I have entered something completely different in the Advanced -> Settings -> From Address for Emails section. Can someone tell me where this gets configured?

I haven't used 4.2, but make sure you actually changed the device name and not just the title - make sure you use the gear -> rename device I believe...

Sorry, I obviously wasn't very clear - I was talking about the monitoring host, not the monitored resources. The name of the monitored resource appears in the Subject lines I am receiving and the original name of the monitoring host appears as the FROM: in the DATA part of the sent emails (RFC822).

Same here, text entered in "From Address for Emails" does not have any effect. :-(

"From Address for Emails" is working fine for me on Zenoss 4.2.0/Centos 6.
In case it matters, I'm using a remote SMTP host and not relying on a local MTA on the Zenoss box

Working fine with CentOS 6.3 and Zenoss 4.2 here.

What does your SMTP host say? If you are using localhost, try changing the SMTP host to a MX gateway that isn't local. If that works then your local SMTP server might be rewriting the from address.

I'm using the same setup - are you using exim? I'd be very, very surprised with exim changing the DATA section (RFC822) from address... Changing RFC821 headers is one (semi-legal) thing - rewriting RFC822 headers is a whole 'nother story.

(and also have restarted everything)

Dunno, the smtp server I'm using is managed by another team, so I have no idea what the MTA actually is.

Which OS are you running, so far I think we have 2 "working" on RHEL/CEntos 6.x and 1 "not working" on Centos 5.8 + whichever OS your on

I'm submitting a bug. If you use the test button for users the correct configuration is used. Alerts, however, go out via localhost no matter what you have in the config settings.
