Hi,

I am using Zenoss 3.2.1 on ubuntu 12 LTS version, i have read hardware requirments of zenoss as its state to use 4 GB ram for 250 devices.

I have 100 Network Switches which have 24 or 48 interfaces and with 50 servers who just have 2 or 3 interfaces and total i have 180 devices.

My concerns is that how much RAM is require on Zenoss server as machine already use 4.25 GB of RAM.

Regards,
Arshad

The RAM requirements for Zenoss aren't hard and fast on a per device level, it's actually more a per datapoint level. As what you collect per device is going to vary, your RAM requirements will vary. 4GB is a good start for Zenoss, but I tend to err on the high side for RAM. On my 3.2.1 Zenoss server for ~ 100 devices, I have 16GB of RAM (though that is running other programs also). On my 4.2.3 that I'm migrating to, I've 16GB allocated JUST for Zenoss.

The best thing to do is see what the RAM use is for you environment and allocate accordingly - 4GB just isn't that much in 2013, heck, 16GB is chump change. For our hardware servers (vs VMs of course) we're not even getting less than 64GB because it's so cheap (and we like to run VMs on them :) )...
