Hi there I'm working on switching some devices from one zenoss to another. I have 2 device classes with devices in them that I need moved over to the other Zenoss. I tried to export them to a zenpack but that seems to just move the configuration over. Is there a way to move the devices from one device class over? I know i could back the zenoss up and restore it to the other zenoss but i don't need nearly all the devices.
They are both the same version.

Thanks for now

Are you looking to preserve data and/or events or simply trying to automate the addition of the devices into the new instance? If its the latter you could use zenbatchload, or the API. A quick DMD script on your existing instance could dump device names (or even directly invoke the remote API). http://community.zenoss.org/blogs/zenossblog/2010/06/29/tip-of-the-month-bulk-loading-devices-with-zenbatchload http://community.zenoss.org/blogs/zenossblog/2010/06/29/tip-of-the-month-bulk-loading-devices-with-zenbatchload

If your want to keep RRD data but don't care about events, I'm pretty sure you can just copy the $ZENHOME/perf/Devices/* directory over to your new instance and then bulk load the devices using one of the methods above.

If you need all the custom attributes and events and all that jazz I can't think of any other route other than a restore,  buts is possible others might have some ideas.

Carlton Reimer:

You can also use 'zendevicedump' and 'zendeviceload' to export and reimport devices.

Best,

Thanks for your help. Thats what i ended up doing. What i was hoping on doing was export just a couple of specific device classes that i needed. What i'll have to do after i do the 'zendeviceload' is delete the ones i don't want from the other zenoss.

Cheers

Carlton
