Hi. I'm getting back into Zenoss after being away for a few versions. I'm doing a new installation and had a question about zenup. I installed 4.2.4 on CentOS 6 using zenoss_core-4.2.4-1897.el6.x86_64.rpm. The zenup guide pointed me here for the pristine file appropriate to 4.2.4:
http://wiki.zenoss.org/download/core/zenup/ http://wiki.zenoss.org/download/core/zenup/

I downloaded and  installed the 4.2.4 pristine file and initialized zenup with it:
     zenoss_core-4.2.4.el6-pristine.tgz

When I run a diff without applying any patches, I expected an empty result set. However I have LOTS of differences, which mainly seem to be around the location of the Python binary (attached is the zenup diff output). Do I need a newer pristine file? An older RPM? Or something else?

Many thanks in advance if you can assist.

Arthur

I actually just ran into this same thing. It had to do with installing release 1897, which contains some fixes in itself, and I guess there is no pristine reflecting this. There's nothing wrong with your install, and zenup will run with no issues. Just make sure you run with --dry-run first, and if you have any concerns from that just paste to your favorite paste site and provide the link.

The only thing I can think of, is that your Zenoss 4.2.4 build 1897 RPM is newer than the SR71 ZUP file. So as far as ZenUp is concerned it has found newer files.

I'm currently running with build 1859 and the only diffs I get are some custom collector plugins that I've created.

Makes sense. Is ZenUp even necessary if I am using RPM-based deployment? In
other words, couldn't I just install updated RPMs? It seems the ZenUp
mechanism is more for auto deploy scenarios.

I believe that ZenUp is the latest way to get updates/patches/bug fixes etc for Zenoss. From what I remember when you do the install/dry run of the SR then it will tell you all of the JIRA tickets/cases that have been addressed. There's no reason why you can't just run with the RPMs, unless there's a very specific bug fix you're after!
