Hi All,

This is my first post and I just managed to install Zenoss 2.4.1 VMware appliance successfully. Well it was very easy.

The purpose of this install is to manage a group of remote Linux servers using SNMP V2.

As you are all aware V2 is not very secure due to clear password thing. So I decided to use Logmein Hamachi service to run encrypted tunnel between my Zenoss server and all the remote Linux servers that we are monitoring.

Easier said than done. It turned out, to my dissappointment, that I can't install the tar ball due to lack of GNU make. i went on to install it but I couldn't find "yum".

Can anyone advice how we can install yum on the appliance so that we can install stuff on the server?

Many thanks for your help and support.

The Zenoss appliances run rPath Linux and do not have much enabled
beyond simply running Zenoss. The purpose of the appliance is to
provide "just enough operating system" to run the app. You may want
to read up on using 'conary', the rPath package manager. http://wiki.rpath.com/wiki/Main_Page
You may have an easier time installing a more familiar Linux on a
VM and putting Zenoss on that VM, but feel free to dig into rPath.

Thanks,
