Guys;

My zenactiond daemons will not start.  All the other daemons are started.  I have not updated or changed any configuration.  Server has been rebooted numerous times.  This is critical because the email alerts are not sending.  This is the log file says

" Unable to connect: (1045, "access denied for user mailto:***@zenmon.ion.com ***@zenmon.ion.com' (using password: YES)")

Zenoss has been working for months before this has happened,

I am running

Centos 6.4
Zenoss 4.2.4

Any help is appreciated.

Have you made any changes to the MySQL Database? Are you using MySQL on the
localhost or an external host?

Please pastebin some of your zenactiond log and the output from:
zenactiond run -v10

Also check $ZENHOME/etc/globals.conf to confirm the correct mysql password
is there for the zenoss user

I would try to log into MySQL locally using the zenoss user with the password thats under $ZENHOME/etc/globals.conf.

# mysql -u zenoss -p
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'zenoss'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

As you can see if the password is wrong you will get the same error.

I must have the wrong password because it gives me Error 1045: Access dened. 

Can I reset the password and how do you do that?

You can but I would look into how it got changed.

Login into MySQL as the root user.

# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:

mysql>SET PASSWORD FOR 'zenoss'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('***@ssw0rd123');
mysql>FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Where is the globals.conf file located at?

I searched but can't find the file.  I found a global.conf file but it is empty.

Usually $ZENHOME points to /opt/zenoss

Please confirm whether it's blank or not...

I thought you had already looked at the password in global.conf and confirmed that it changed. This doesn't seem to be the case now. After reading, there are a few other places you will need update the password. To avoid going through this, change the password back to refect what is currently in the global.conf file. The password is in global.conf three times(zodb-password, amqppassword, and zep-password).

# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:

mysql>SET PASSWORD FOR 'zenoss'@'localhost' = PASSWORD('*put_the_password_here*');
mysql>FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
mysql>exit

Then verify that it worked by trying to login to MySQL using the zenoss user.
# mysql -u zenoss -p
Enter password: (The password that you just changed back to what was already in the global.conf file)
mysql>exit

When I looked at the global.conf it had the password that i thought I used but it did not work.  I restarted all the zenoss services and now the zenoss logon page  is saying page not found.

This is so frustrating.  I am the only one that manages this server and I made no changes and out of nowhere the password just changed for no reason.

These wierd type issues is why I am having a hard time selling the purchase of the enterprise edition to my company.  They want to purchase MOM and I prefer Zenoss.

Sorry about my rant but I am truly at my wits end

Any suggestions?

I already explained in a post above how to reset the MySQL password. Also, I highly doubt he wants to spend the time to properly setup phpMyAdmin.
