Does anyone have a guide or steps to upgrade zenoss-stack 3.2.1 to 4.2?

After reading the latest docs it seems the instructions are for the 3.2.1 rpm version of zenoss - but not so much the stack.

As stack installers are no longer being built, I'd recommend approaching this as a two-step process -- first, migrate to a 3.2.1-based installation using RPMs. Then upgrade the RPM installation to 4.x.

Regards,

Daniel

I too have the same issue.  Running  Zenoss 3.2.1 on OpenSuSE 12.1 with Stack installer.  Want to upgrade to 4.2.

Like Shannon, I am running ZenOSS 3.2.1 on a stack installer system (Ubuntu) and would like a migration path to 4.2 - will that be available?  We currently have 300+ switches that have been modelled for over 3 years and I would hate to have to re-do all that work and lose all the historical data.

The basic process for upgrading from a stack installer is a two-step process, and we will be providing more detail on this on the wiki (wiki.zenoss.org) soon. But this will give you a basic overview of the process. First, you will need to migrate to 3.2.1 64-bit RPMs running on RHEL/CentOS 5. So here are the steps:

1. On your existing install (stack installer) of 3.2.1, use zenbackup.
2. Set up a new install of RHEL5/CentOS 5 3.2.1 64-bit using our standard RPMs, on a new system.
3. Use zenrestore on the new system. If your stack installer was 32-bit, you will also need to convert your RRD data over to 64-bit (extra step, more info to come on the wiki on how to do this.)
4. Verify your new zenoss 3.2.1 64-bit RPM install is now running fine.
5. Follow instructions in our Core 4 Installation Guide to upgrade 3.2.1 RHEL/CentOS 5 64-bit to 4.2.0 (Core 4.)
6. Verify proper operation.
7. Now you can decommission your stack installer 3.2.1 Zenoss.

(Now, optionally, you can zenbackup/zenrestore to jump to RHEL6/CentOS6.)

This will be easier to do if you have access to virtual machines.

Daniel
We've try to migrate from CentOS 5 / Zenoss v3.2.1/64bit  to CentOS 6 / Zenoss v4.2 64bit using zenbackup/zenrestore commands but new database is empty and there is no devices. Can you please post detail instructions for this step because in Core 4 Instalation Giude there is no detailed instructions.

Managed to migrate from Stack 3.2.1 -> RPM 3.2.1 following this document. It took a few tries. First couple of attempts came up with a blank db and no devices.

http://www.sysadminwiki.net/site/doku.php/monitoring/zenoss/upgrading_zenoss_stack_3.2.1_to_rpm_version_of_3.2.1 http://www.sysadminwiki.net/site/doku.php/monitoring/zenoss/upgrading_zenoss_stack_3.2.1_to_rpm_version_of_3.2.1

Letting it burn in before jumping right to 4.2.0 - so far so good.

Cheers

Hey Kelvin - check out $ZENHOME/etc

I had to edit $ZENHOME/etc/zeo.cong and change the INSTANCE path from /usr/local/zenoss to /opt/zenoss. Take a quick look through those conf files for an path's that are off now.

vi $ZENHOME/etc/zeo.conf
%define INSTANCE /opt/zenoss
