I will say, I have no idea if anyone is going to package Zenoss for SUSE, unless there is a large demand with funding or some SUSE packager decided to just do it.

As James said, only RHEL/CentOS for now. One solution that I use for Funtoo Linux is to run Zenoss in a CentOS 6 OpenVZ container. This is quite handy and does not impact performance.

Me too for SuSE.  I have been asking for this since March.  I have a very mature SuSE Zenoss and throwing it all away to start again on an OS flavour that I do not know well, is simply not an option.

We've just released our BastionLinux/Zenoss4 RPM stack, and if there's commercial interest, we'd certainly release a SLES11/OpenSuSE yum channel.

It appears that Zenoss has dumped support for anything that isn't redhat.

I've been a fan of Zenoss for years but I'll have to start looking for something else if they are not going to support my OS. Has anyone been able to install 4.2.0 on suse?

My understanding is that there is an effort underway to revamp the current packaging system, which will make supporting other platforms manageable.

In the interm, I know some folks have had some recent success installing on debian/ubuntu when installing from source. That might also be an option for you, but it certainly won't be a buttoned up like it was in the past, until the new packaging system is in place.

It is not hard to get it building wihtout the Java components.

1 - I modified the spec file to detect the distribution provided Python;
2 - Removed ZenPacks.zenoss.ZenJMX zenpack because of Java dependencies;
3 - Modified the GNUmakefile.in to not call java-install;
4 - Modified icmpecho Makefile to include "-I/usr/include/python2.7" in CFLAGS.

In my earlier tests I also removed a lot of components that the distribution already provides, but to keep it simple to compare I just made these 3 changes.

This[1] patches resumes the changes in source files and here[2] you can see the spec file (just fails on the post-build-checks but you can get the package building it locally).
