Hi everyone, and thanks in advance for your help. I am facing some issues with Zenoss. Overall the application is working fine keeping an eye over 30 Windows 2008 r2 virtual servers on a cloud. But I have four servers not reporting disk usage despite of I am running same templates and plugins on each one (snmp and wmi).

I donÂŽt know if it has to do with it but when I am on Perfomance Reports-> Filesystem Util Report, lot of error pop ups appear reporting:

*+Error when processing tales expression python:totalBytes and /100 -float(availableBytes)*100 / float(totalbytes)) or Nonoe on context: Exception Class Messsage: float () argument must be a string or a number.+*

Could someone tell me how I could avoid those errors and how to get all servers reporting right about disk usage? By the way I am running SNMP informant on each server.

Regards

That error just indicates that there's no data for a particular filesystem.  Forget about that... If you go to that device and click on that filesystem what do you see in terms of graphs?  Also, are you monitoring the filesystems on your windows servers with SNMP or WMI?

I am testing the Zenoss CE by monitoring 27 Windows 2008 servers (Cloud VMs) and most of them are reporting fine but there are 5 that donÂŽt report disk usage and graphs appear empty.

I am using both WMI and SNMP and I have installed Informamnt in all devices. I realized it was the only way to get all running, I mean get CPU, disk usage and mems charts.

Is there a link to get that fix to solve the issue? Now what IÂŽd like to find out a little bit more is on how to set the events I am interesting in, for instance Tomcat when not running as a Windows service.

Thanks a lot guys. And let me say Zenoss looks really great, itÂŽs likely we upgrade to the Enterprise if it brings us other features we are looking for.

Are pulling information on your windows machines through Informant or through the Window WMI zenpacks?
If you are using the latter, there might be a problem with how the disk usage/free information is pulled.  FileSystemMap module tries to make an educated guess about the blocksize (allocation unit in Windows language) - but doesnt seem to work sometimes.

We posted a fix in the forum (well not really a fix) which hardcodes FileSystemMap module to calculate based on the Windows default partion block size of 4096 bytes and a couple of other changes to the FileSystemMap module.

I monitor thousands of windows hosts via the standard windows SNMP agent (without snmp informant) with the following ZenPacks without any issues at all...

Ryan,
are you monitoring these hosts with Zenoss 4.2 (service release installed) and only thestraight, out-of-the-box ZenPacks included with 4.2 plus these ZenPacks?

Most of the docs on these seem to indicate they are currently working for 2.X and 3.X versions of Zenoss. If they are working well in the 4.2 environment, we would love to try them.

Yes, all of those packs are tested and working in 4.2?  I actually authored all 3 of those packs.  I just posted updated versions of 2 of the packs.

I know I'm bumping an older thread here. but I can't seem to figure out how to get your snmp zenpack to be the goto for FileSystems Monitoring. Currently I've got WMI monitoring 2k3 and 2k8 servers via wmi but on lots of them I'm not seeing any actual FileSystem utilization data. Can you tell me what to bind /use to get snmp to get those datapoints instead of WMI. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need the snmp FileSystemMap modeler plugin instead of the WMI one.  You also need an SNMP based FileSystem template in the class that the device is in instead of a WMI.  Basically, if your devices are in /Server/Windows/WMI then move them to /Server/Windows instead since that monitors SNMP by default.

Thanks for that. I copied the /filesystem template in /server/windows onto my device class for the machines that' werent reporting properly and that seems to have fixed them up. Now I'm seeing utilization for those machines that weren't populating before.
