Manually change Zenoss Device Status

Hi everyone,
Is there a way in which I can manually set the "status" field of a device on Zenoss (From down to up or from up to down)?
I'm hoping to create a transform for one of my events that has an event class "/Status/Ping", in which if it were to be critical, I would bring down the device.

Using Zendmd, I was able to get the status of the device using the following:
*device.Devices.findDevice("My_DEVICE")*
*device.getStatus()*

But I there is no "setStatus()" method that I can use. I'm using Zenoss 4.2.0.

Any suggestions?

Just to clarify.

When a critical event is passed to /Status/Ping you're not getting the status changed from Up to Down?
