Hello everybody,

I know by now that Zenoss will refuse to monitor the same device twice (via the same or different IP addresses) but I have a speciffic need and I was wondering if any of you has an idea on how can we accomplish this.

Here's my scenario: I have a remote site and I want to monitor the site router and the WAN link connecting it to the central site. First I add the router in Zenoss which will monitor it completely without any problem. However, now I would also like to monitor the link with a plugin like fping or any other script that will give me the round-trip time and lost packets because Zenoss is not doing this automatically when it pings the device at regular intervals. Problem is Zenoss wil refuse to add to its device database any IP address that belongs to the site router because all of them had been previously discovered. An obvious workaround is to ping an internal machine at that site or the firewall (though the security team will not like it at all and will surely deny it). My point is, other NM
S are doing it (don't want to give names here) and in my opinion we should have a way of doing it in Zenoss.

Any idea would be appreciated.

nillie:

Add both devices to Zenoss then model them. The both need to be added before modeling otherwise it'll stop you later on.

Best,

Wouldn't a targeted NMAP query do what you are looking for?
