Just thought I'd give this heads-up to others who might be stumped by the problem and otherwise waste time on it.  It appears FF18 has a bug that affects (among others) ExtJS applications (like Zenoss):

You can work around it by disabling IonMonkey with a setting in about:config:
javascript.options.ion.content = false
(thanks to cluther for showing me that)

Hopefully, they'll push out an 18.0.1 soon to address it.

Bad timing considering the 4.2.3 release at about the same time.
