Hi Friends,

I just installed and configure my zenoss server for monitoring porpuse and i want to monitor the OS (Linux/Windows) upcoming updates. Let say, in debian destro, They release some updates for one package so i want this information to show in my zenoss monitoring deskboard. so that i can know that this updates needs to be installed on this servers.

Is this possible in zenoss? I was using Nagios earlyer and it is providing the same feature. Check the below screenshot for your reference.

Please le me know if we can able to configure this kind of feature or any zenopack is available for the same.

Thank You in Advance.

There is only zenpack, which write version installed packages:

I think, is no problem to add information about package updates, but at this time is not implemented.

Do you know what Nagios is using to get its information?  If it is a nagios plugin then you could run that same plugin with Zenoss.  Can you find out??  Perhaps we could then craft something.  It would be a nice feature to have.

Cheers,
Jane

Hello Pavel & jcurry,

Pavel, I already installed "Ubuntu Linux" zepack and testing it. but the problem is i have ubuntu, Debian, CenOS, Redhat, FreeBSD all the distro which i want to monitor. The "Ubuntu Linux" zenpack test is not done successfully yet.

jcurry, I know Nagios is monitoring it through NRPE2 agent but the issue is zenoss is not using any agent. its only monitors servers and devices through snmp/ssh/telnet. Can you please let me know how can we proceed further to monitor the linux updates.

I have audited that Zenoss can able to get details of Windows update.

Thank You,

I know Nagios is using NRPE - but can you find out what NRPE is running?  Is it a standard nagios plugin?

Zenoss can use ssh to run Nagios plugins, either locally or remotely, so we should be able to swap out the Nagios server and swap in the Zenoss server.  Exactly what we do with the information may be a different story....

Cheers,
Jane

Hello Jcurry,

The Nagios is agent based monitoring tool however we can also monitor through SMTP protocol. I dont know NRPE is standard tool for Nagios or what. i want to know how we can use Nagios tools in zenoss to monitor?

Right now my nagios server uses NRPE-APT command to check the linux updates. do i able to use it in zenoss.

I have added ubuntu_aptitude command in modular plugins in some of the servers to test but i didnt get any chages.

Thanks,
Mahi_nix
