  Hi,
it is possible to configure in Zenoss 4.2 ping from zenoss via hostname not ip. In 3.x Zenoss get ip from host name and ping this ip. I need to ping device with dynamic ip so must ping to hostname, or always before send ping get new ip.

Zenoss pings by IP, not by hostname, that's how it has always done it because there's no guarantee that the hostname of a device will be resolvable.  The only way to do something like this would be to create a script that checks for changes in IP addresses for the devices in the system and change the IP if it doesn't match, but it's not going to be an instantaneous update.

Either that or create a command datasource that executes a script to do the ping and alert if it fails, and have it do it with the hostname.

Thanks for answer, please tell me where  is the best place to put this script. I will start this script automaticaly before pinging device on specific device class.
