Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble figuring out how to make snmp work. I can snmpwalk from localhost with no problem, but I get a timeout error when I try from the server on which zenoss is installed.

My snmpd.conf file conains the only line:

+rocommunity public+

Snmp runs on a Debian squeeze system, and /etc/default/snmp.conf doesn't have the localhost ip binding thing, so I really don't know what else to do.

Also there is no firewall restriction fo any kind.

Any idea ?

Thanks

After 10hours struggling, I solved the mystery. I opened completely the firewall (actually it's on openstack so I did this with the security groups), but I forgot to open the ports on UDP, I dit it only for TCP...

Thanks though

rocommunity COMMUNITYNAME MONITORINGHOSTNAME
rocommunity notsopublic myzenossbox.company.com
Than make sure you open UDP port 161 in your firewall for incoming connections from your monitoring box.

Also make sure to configure the zProperty for the SNMP community name if you do not use 'public' as the community name. It is more secure to use 'notsopublicrandomstring'.
