Hello - Zenoss newbie here. I like the product so far, however, I have a difficult time installing ZenPacks.

I am using version 4.2 virtual ppliance and cannot install most zenpacks.I am trying to install the following:

+*ZenPacks.community.DellMon-1.1-py2.4.egg.zip*+ - fails through the web insterface or via CLI. In the CLI (in /opt/zenoss/ZenPacks) I see the following error:

ERROR:zen.ZenPackCmd:Zenpack ZenPacks.community.DellMon-1.1-py2.4.egg requires ZenPacks.community.deviceAdvDetail>=1.2

Okay, fine - tried installing *ZenPacks.community.deviceAdvDetail-2.7.egg* via the web interface - fails. I tried installing via CLI, I get no message, so I assume it worked? I then try to install +*ZenPacks.community.DellMon-1.1-py2.4.egg.zip*+ again but it still tells me the same error.

Installing ZenPacks is very frustrating - PLEASE HELP!!

Zenpacks are like firefox extensions, they aren't compatible with all versions of Zenoss. The py2.4 is for zenoss versions 2.x...

Also, Zenoss 4 was released about 3 days ago. It may be some time before all zenpacks are compatible - and some will not be updated just like v3 didn't get all the v2 zenpacks updated. At least try the latest version of Dellmon for v3:

Thanks James - I guess it is early, however, I downloaded this virtual appliance a couple of weeks ago - in fact, when I saw the 4 release news, I tried upgrading, only to realize my appliance was already at 4.2!  Oops :^0

I just read somewhere renaming the .egg zenpack files without the py__ in the filename. I'm going to try that.

You downloaded a beta release then... v4 was *just* released.

Also, you really want the newer release - Is there some reason you want to use v1.1 of the zenpack instead of 2.4?

I just tried installing the 2.4 version and it failed. I tried again via CLI and it says I need ZenPacks.community.deviceAdvDetail>=1.3

makes sense, as I just ran into this with version 1.2. I'll try to find 1.3+ of deviceAdvDetail and try again.

To answer your question, no, no particular reason, but I found more device monitors in 1.x then the out-of-the-box DellMonitor 2.2

I was able to install ZenPacks/community.deviceAdvDetailv2.7. However, when I try to install DellMon2.7 I get this error:

If your coming in fresh, the easy way to ensure you get the proper egg file would be

zenpack --fetch +*ZenPacks.community.DellMon*+

This (new feature in 4x) should go out and download the proper egg file for your version.
