I have just noticed this post on the Enterprise Knowledge Base site - https://support.zenoss.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=16059&redirect=true https://support.zenoss.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=16059&redirect=true .
The Google Maps Functions on Zenoss versions 4.1.x and earlier will stop functioning on November 19, 2013 without administrator intervention. The Google Maps functions on these versions of Zenoss rely on Version 2 of the Google Maps JavaScript API, which will end-of-life as of November 19. Zenoss versions 4.2 and later use Version 3 of the API and will not be affected.
* No fix is available for Zenoss versions prior to 4.1.1. An upgrade to Zenoss 4.2.x or an upgrade to Zenoss 4.1.1 plus application of the latest Recommended Patch Set (RPS) before November 19, 2013  will be necessary to restore Google Maps functionality on these instances.
* Google Maps functionality can be restored on Zenoss version 4.1.1 with an application of the latest RPS prior to November 19, 2013.
*
I am guessing that this also applies to Core?  Are we really saying that any Zenoss Core prior to 4.2 loses google maps functionality on November 19th??

Cheers,
Jane

Jane,
Google is EOLing maps api 2 but is trying to provide backwards support.  Please see https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/reference https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/reference for more info.

Thanks Andrew,

The link says

*Warning:* Version 2 of the Google Maps JavaScript API *is no longer available for new applications* and will be turned down for existing applications on November 19, 2013. Please follow the guide to https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/v2tov3 migrate your code to https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/ version 3 of the Google Maps JavaScript API. As of November 19, 2013, all applications requesting v2 will be served a special, wrapped version of the v3 API instead. We expect this wrapped version of the API will work for most simple maps, but we strongly encourage you to *migrate to the v3 API immediately*.

So I guess the next question is whether Zenoss has tested pre 4.2 Zenoss with this"wrapped" version of the key?

It would be better to know this before a flood of queries on November 19th.

Cheers,
Jane

I have just tried this this morning (November 19th). My Zenoss 3.2.1 says that the GoogeMaps API key is not valid.

I have generated a new key today, starting from https://code.google.com/apis/console https://code.google.com/apis/console . Installed it from the Settings menu.  The Dashboard GoogleMaps application still says that the GoogleMaps API key is not valid.  I have to assume that this "wrapping" system described above is not working for Zenoss.

I have to assume that this means that GoogleMaps is terminally broken for any Zenoss prior to 4.2.

I also note that an Enterprise 4.1.1 system has also lost its GoogleMaps app.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Cheers,
Jane

Same here. I've lost the maps on a 3.2.1 install.
Does anyone have an idea of how much effort would be necessary to modify the code in order to have googlemaps working on versions prior to 4.1.x?
I've some zenpacks which arenÂŽt 4.x.x compliant...

Something have been made last night on the wrapper side since I've the maps back. thanks google.
The question now is, how long the wrapper will be mantained...

Yup - my 3.2.1 GoogleMaps seems to be alive again.  Let's hope Google maintain this.  Zenoss seemed adamant that their only response was to move to Zenoss 4.2 or later :(

Cheers,
Jane
