""nan" values on custom UPS OIDs"

Hello,

I`m zenoss user from few months. I thought that I can handle it all, but...

System is running Zenoss 3.2.1 on Debian, monitoring Cisco routers and local UPS. Routers works fine with all graphs, but I`m also trying to monitor custom UPS (EVER Sinline PRO) - all graphs are empty and have "nan" values.

MIB database provided by producer was imported successfully, custom monitoring template created, OID with "0" at the end added, graph points added, when testing with snmpwalk:

Executing command snmpwalk -ccommunity -v1 172.x.x.x 1.3.6.1.4.1.9797.1.3.1.19.0 against 172.x.x.x
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9797.1.3.1.19.0 = INTEGER: 100

output is a correct integer value, but still no graph plotted. Also, no rrd files for device are created. Devices working on "production" state, uptime gathered properly.

I think I`m missing something, but don`t know what. I’ve searched whole forum, looked on google - and everything looks ok, but is not. No graphs on UPS after many days.

Hmmm, I think there's an issue - are you using SNMP v1 in Zenoss? The SNMPv2 start when walking with v1 is interesting but may be a red herring.

When you have blank graphs, you say a custom template was created - so the OIDs you're grabbing exist, you're not trying to use a Cisco template against a UPS? Zenoss uses a snmpget style check for OIDs also, so best to test with that.

jmp242 - thanks for fast repply.

In device connfiguration properties, zSNMPver is set to v1, so i think zenoss is using version 1. UPS is using it`s own template, different to Cisco (I`ve created it). Also, I`ve tested device with snmpget, result was a proper integer value...

Did you define graphs and assign data points to the graphs in the template? Can you screen shot the various details in the template definition (datapoints, graph definitions etc...)?

Macjiej:

Is the template bound to a device?

As the zenoss user, run zenperfsnmp -v10 -d 'yourTestDevice'

Please sanitize and post the result.

Yes, I tried, all I get is:

***@Zenoss:/usr/local/zenoss/zenoss/bin$ zenperfsnmp -v10 -d '172.x.x.x'
Usage: /usr/local/zenoss/zenoss/bin/zenperfsnmp {run|start|stop|restart|status|h    elp|genconf|genxmlconfigs|debug|stats} [options]

  where the commands are:

run     - start the program but don't put it in the background.
NB: This mode is good for debugging.

start   - start the program in daemon mode -- running in the background,
              detached from the shell

    stop    - stop the program

restart - stop and then start the program
NB: Sometimes the start command will run before the daemon
has terminated.  If this happens just re-run the command.

status  - Check the status of a daemon.  This will print the current
process nuber if it is running.

help    - display the options available for the daemon

genconf - create an example configuration file with default settings

genxmlconfigs - create an XML file with default settings

debug   - toggle the logging of daemons between Debug level and the default

stats   - display detailed statistics of the deamon

I can safely say it's not testing at all. Thats why the graphs aren't working. Is this device being colelcted by a remote collector? If so, whats the monitor name?

Shane - no, it`s not remote - it`s local collector. Earlier I thought it could be some misconfiguration problem, but i reinstalled OS and Zenoss few times, on different machines and localizations, still same problem...

In Infrastructure/Devices tab I created new device class Power\UPS\EVER (producer name). Then, in Advanced/Monitoring templates I`ve added Template "EVER" to path created before, and then in "EVER" template creaded all datasources and graphs. And that`s how it looks:

This may be a stupid question, but yes you've created the template. Did you +bind+ it to the device class? Go to Infrastructure, navigate to the device class in the left hand pane, click the lower gear icon, "bind templates" and make sure that your template is on the "Selected" side.

Hum. I'm short of ideas. If you zenping run now -v10 is the device listed?

RRD's can be created using rrdtool, however, it won't help the situation. The problem is zenperfsnmp isn't getting a config for the device for some reason.

Maciej:

For snmpdata sources you won't need to specify a datapoint name. For command and other types you might. For example in a command datasource you'll want to have a datapoint which is named after each component of the returned result. Try to stick with the nagios format for command datasources, it's just easier.

For example:
If your event command returns 'OK| pingRTA=0.345 pingLoss=0 pingDuplicates=0' you'll want a datapoints named 'pingRTA', 'pingLoss' and 'pingDuplicates'.

Best,

That result looks good! Exactly what it should do when it's correctly polling a device. -v10 is helpful on zenperfsnmp and zencommand since you can see exactly what the result was and whether or not it was stored in the RRD.

Best,

Looks good. Can you post the graph datapoint definitions as well?

If you navigate to $ZENHOME/perf/Devices/yourDevice/ do you see rrd files for your datapoints?

If so, try rrdtool lastupdate rrdFile.rrd. Does it return a value or nan?

So to add to this as well.... Out of the blue, all of my APC's stopped graphing.. How did I fix this.... By deleteing and readding the device.... This is far from Ideal.... And what really sucked, is that the only way we found out about this, was due to the fact, that the datacenter engineer needed to look at the graphs and they have not been graphing for over a month....
