I saw where this is being done elsewhere, and think it could be a useful feature:

Adding VRULE graph points to a given device/component RRD graph to indicate when events occured.   This would add some context to RRD graphs (i.e., behavior before and after a event).  I'm thinking that the VRULE color could depend on the event severity, and could perhaps be controlled by an event command script.

It looks like Zenoss has built-in support, for adding VRULEs but that they would be done in the typical fashion (by modifying the template), but can anyone think of a way to do this without effectively making all templates locally bound?  Is there a way do do this within the "DMD/Zope" framework?

Alternately, I'm thinking that another way to acheive this would be to modify the RRD "graph command" property somehow to add the VRULEs...

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joseph

I'm not aware of anyway to accomplish this, but its something I'd like to see as well.

Its tough to visualize how it could work without hacking the templates...

The problem that I see with this is if you had a flood of events it would make that portion of graph data basically unreadable, unless the vrule were very translucent.

I guess that's possible, but that would probably be a border case.  I was thinking, though, that events related to a component would draw only on graphs related to that component, while events for the device could be drawn on the "Device" template graphs.
