Hi,
Hopefully this is a "bone head" question and I just haven't looked in the right place to find the answer.
Fairly clean install of Zenoss 4.2 using the install script, on a dedicated 3 Ghz dual Xeon 8Gb of memory running Cent OS v 6.
After configuring the Firewall the automagic discovery started working.  The problem now is that I can't move devices from one device class (default) to another using the GUI.  I am a manager in Zenoss and can change the device class by going to each device and modifying the settings there but that is far from optimal.

What am I missing to get moving devices to another class working in Zenoss 4.2

Mark

You can drag and drop devices from the right hand side into the device class tree on the left to move them. You can also do a "multi select" and drag more than one.

No not quite :( ,
I able to select multiple items in the right window.
I can then drag them to a new device class in the left window.
At this point, I should be able to drop the selected devices into the chosen device class, but I've had no joy at this step.  Although I'm a manager I get (on windows) a circle with a line through it, linux gives me a kind of page looking icon, but in either case the device or devices scurry back to the default class.

I've searched through different logs etc but have not found the reason for this.  Most of the time, in my experience, problems like this are either unsolvable or so simple that they are overlooked.  My vote is for "B"

Can you give us some concrete examples - or a screenshot if it isn't classified info.
Cheers,
Jane

Sorry it took so long.
As you can see, I have selected three switches and dragged them over to the Network\Switch class.  At that point I should be able to drop them in but I have had no joy.  The same thing happens with one drag&drop.  I can select a switch and use the "gear" icon to move an item.

Are you clicking on the whitespace just to the right of the device name before dragging it?

Well I was right in that it was either impossible or so simple it would take an idiot to miss the answer.  I am not sure I even saw the little white space and when selecting multiple devices would not have thought that is was significant.

Thanks so much,
I need to go wipe the egg off my face now :)

I had this issue a few months back and ultimately the fix that worked was to restart the Zenoss service.
