Hello everybody,

I tried to setup monitoring an IP address using the Nagios check_ping plugin in Zenoss core v4.2 but graphs are showing NAN and no RRD has been created.

The data source seems to be correct, at least according to the attached screenshot and I'd like to know what else should I check in order to further troubleshoot this issue.

Did you set up a graph definition in your template?

Yes, for each of the two datapoints. I can see the graphs being created with the correct settings but no values are being shown and the summary indicates NAN. Also as I said in my original post, no RRD files are being created for this datasource. I suspect that either the check_ping command is not being executed at all or the values it returns are not correct which is less likely since I can test the datasource on the real target. Am I missing something else here ?

Thanks for your suggestion.

Did you CREATE the graph points and CHOOSE (or highlight) the corresponnding data_point so that the two are linked? Its possible that you may not have selected a datapoint for the created graph point.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I double checked the graph definitions and the correct datapoints are being set as they should be.

Try to run
zencommand run -v10 -d hostname

then search for check_ping and see what happens

I don't have a upgraded 4.2 version available for testing.
Check that you have defined datapoints: LOSS, rta and pl ?
it says 0 datapoints on your output.

I was expecting (based on how it is in 3.2.0) some lines in the output to tell you that it saves data to a RRD file. How it is in 4.2.0, I'm not familar with yet.

Finally it seems the problem was with parsing of the output of check_ping command. I found this because I quit using the Nagios plugin and went with the Ping datasource instead, keeping the same graph definitions. It works great!

Thank you all for input.
