I just replaced one of our switches so the zenoss server was down about 3 hours.  I have been getting alerts that devices are down for over a day now.  I have tried rebooting the server and mysql.  For some reason it thinks these are down when they are not.  Is there a way to clear these?

Hi Jason,
If you have replaced a switch device, are you sure that it has the same IP address / hostname and that Zenoss has picked these up correctly?  It is possible that Zenoss still has the "old" device and is still trying to ping it.

Check both the name and the IP address of your new device and I would do a manual remodel of it.  Do be aware that the Title of a device (the field you see in Device Title on the Overview page for a device) is not necessarily the same as it's fundamental id.  Check the URL being used to access the device to see what it's id is.

Cheers,
Jane

yes I am positive.  I'm getting alerts from every device on my network, not just one.  I had 5,000 emails alone this morning and nothing is wrong.  Is there a cache or something that needs cleared?

Is it possible that your switch is blocking that port, certain devices will not respond to ping if firewall rules don't let the ping through.

Do you have interruptions in your ping tests or do the packets come in non stop, also I believe I read somewhere that Zenoss 4 does ping tests with nmap.  Maybe something in the difference between ping and nmap gets blocked?

Do you have firewalls, or security devices between your zenoss hub and the devices? I've run into this before on some firewalls that attempt to auto-detect the protocol being used and block becuase it doesn't look like ping.  ZenPing packets look much different than the packets generated by the ping command.
