Google Maps API Key
To access the free Google Maps API, you must specify an API key linked to a base URL.You can obtain a free API key from Google at https://code.google.com/apis/console https://code.google.com/apis/console.

When I go to the site   It is the API project site where I created an API project

Once in  I see

▌
* https://code.google.com/apis/console/#project:538360449018:overview Overview
* https://code.google.com/apis/console/#project:538360449018:services Services
* https://code.google.com/apis/console/#project:538360449018:team Team
* https://code.google.com/apis/console/#project:538360449018:access API Access

In the services   I see that there is a daily charge

Hi Chistopher,

I just did this today for free.

I followed the instructions: Logged in, clicked Services --> Scrolled down and toggled Google Maps API v2 (in my case) to "ON."

The API key was then generated and is shown under the API Access tab.

If you click on Google's "Pricing" link ( https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#usage_pricing https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#usage_pricing), it defines it's pricing terms for you.  It states "Applications generating map load volumes below the https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#usagelimits usage limits can use the Maps API at no cost providing the application meets https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#tos_commercial the requirements of the Google Maps API https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#tos Terms of Service."  The usage limit is defined as under 25,000 visits per day.

In the same chart, it shows the price in the case that you exceed that usage limit for "90 consecutive days".

Hope this helps,

z3r0day
