--------------------------------------------------------------
I have followed all of the instructions in the Installation guide.
I've installed fresh CentOS 6.2 64 bit. Updated it to 6.3.
Removed old applications including mysql.
Installed all of the prereqs including downloaded MySQL (client, server, shared) version 5.5.29-1.el6.x86_64.
I've used yum localinstall commands just like in guide.
I get errors when installing zenoss rpm with yum command. Here are the last steps in the error log.

--------------------------
Error: Package: zenoss-4.2.0-1586.el6.x86_64 (/zenoss-4.2.0.el6.x86_64)

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

----------------------------------

It feels like yum does not see MySQL installs. I've used yum to install mysql rpms.

Please advise.

Thanks.

This is the error:

You need to download the MySQL-shared-compat RPM and then it should work.

actually DO NOT install mysql shared compat.  That is not the problem, it's an artifact of centos 6.3's mysql RPM's and can be ignored.
Yasha: when did you download the core autodeploy script?  Would you please remove ALL mysql rpms (rpm -qa | grep mysql && rpm -qa | grep MySQL), and redownload the deploy script, and run it again.  This bug cropped up right before christmas and was fixed, but people with old copies of the script are running into broken MySQL RPMs.

This is the code I changed in the script 2 weeks ago to force MySQL 5.28.  5.29 appears to be broken.

echo "Auto-detecting most recent MySQL Community release"
try rm -f .listing
try wget --no-remove-listing $mysql_ftp_mirror >/dev/null 2>&1
#if [ -e .listing ]; then
#     # note: .listing won't be created if you going thru a proxy server(e.g. squid)
#     mysql_v=`cat .listing | awk '{ print $9 }' | grep MySQL-client | grep $myels.x86_64.rpm | sort | tail -n 1`
#     # tweaks to isolate MySQL version:
#     mysql_v="${mysql_v##MySQL-client-}"
#     mysql_v="${mysql_v%%.$myels.*}"
#     echo "Auto-detected version $mysql_v"
#fi
#MySQL 5.29 creates dependancy issues, we'll force 5.28 for the remainder of the life of 4.2
mysql_v="5.5.28-1"

Actually, I was not using the script. I was going by manual. Installed all of the prereqs. Downloaded zenoss rpm and tried to install it with yum. Is there a way to get around this error with my installation approach?

thanks

The manual recommends 5.5.25a-1.  My example above uses 5.5.28-1.  Either of those will work, you are using 5.5.29-1 which has some sort of internal breakage.  Please use 5.5.28-1.

Philip and I are arguing it out right now over the mysql-shared-compat issues.  Would you please install the 5.5.28-1 mysql-shared-compat, and tell me if the postfix warning goes away?  If so we will ship that change with the next version of Zenoss Core.

Thanks!

It worked without compat package.

Now I am trying to figure out how to migrate my data. I am going from Zenoss 3.2.1 (centos 5 32bit) to Zenoss 4.2 (centos 6 64bit).

I want to move devices, perf data, users(and their settings like alerts) and hopefully events.

Thank you.
